Endicott - Benjamin Franklin

Darlington - Benjamin Franklin Endicott was born in Franklin Township a little more than 66 years ago, being among the oldest of our native born citizens. He was never married but made his home among his friends, and for the past several years made his home with Madison Dixon, where he died October 1, 1901. Mr. Endicott was a man of peculiar traits of character. A large, well built man, strong and a willing worker, born in early time his education was limited, but he had a passion for reading. He loved to read and talk of ancient history and was well informed on the subject. His mind, never strong like his body gave way some years ago and he was placed in an asylum for a time, but later returned and continued to live near here. His actions at times were peculiar but harmless, and he made his home on the farm. On Monday he cut corn all day and arose Tuesday morning apparently in his usual health. While eating breakfast he was stricken with paralysis and never rallied, but died soon after. His funeral was held Thursday at the Lutheran Church, east of town, conducted by Rev. Jasper Cooper. - kbz
